THE BLUE EYES IN THE DELIVERY ROOM
1. A Marriage Without Laughter
Emily Carter and Michael Carter had been married for four years.
Four years living in a luxurious villa worth over three million dollars in the suburbs of California, yet Emily had not had a single night of peaceful sleep. To outsiders, she was a lucky woman — married into wealth, never worrying about money, living a life many envied. Michael Carter was the only son of Richard Carter, a powerful real estate tycoon whose assets stretched from Los Angeles to San Diego.
But only Emily knew how cold that marriage truly was.
For four long years, they had no children.
At first, Emily believed patience would be enough. But month after month passed, year after year slipped away, and her womb remained empty. Meanwhile, her in-laws’ gazes grew sharper, colder.
Michael never initiated conversations about having children. Every time Emily cautiously suggested going for a medical checkup, he exploded in anger.
“Are you saying there’s something wrong with me?” Michael snapped.
“I’m a man. I’m a Carter. No one in this family has ever been infertile.”
Emily swallowed her tears. She knew her husband’s pride was enormous, especially as the CEO of the family corporation. To him, stepping into a fertility clinic was equal to admitting weakness.
“Maybe… we could both get checked,” Emily once suggested softly.
The response shattered her.
“You’re the one who can’t give birth, and you dare blame me?”
Once, in a moment of cruelty, Michael spat out words that cut deep into her soul:
“You’re nothing but a useless woman, married just to look pretty.”
After that, Emily never dared bring it up again.
Because she had no children, her husband’s family looked down on her. Her mother-in-law, Margaret, never openly insulted her, but the silent contempt, the deliberate comparisons at family dinners — all were knives carving into Emily’s heart.
She lived in a mansion, yet felt lonelier than ever.
2. The Sister in a White Coat
The only person Emily could confide in was her younger sister, Anna Miller.
Anna was three years younger and worked as an obstetrician at a major private hospital in Los Angeles. Intelligent, direct, and sharp-tongued, Anna grew furious every time she heard her sister’s story.
“You’re too gentle, Emily,” Anna said.
“Infertility isn’t always the woman’s fault. If he refuses to get checked, maybe the problem is actually him.”
Emily could only smile bitterly.
“I can’t force him. He’s too proud.”
Anna wanted to confront her brother-in-law more than once, but Emily stopped her. She feared making things worse, feared her in-laws would hate her even more.
Anna never imagined that the truth would reveal itself in the most brutal way possible.
3. The Encounter at the Hospital
That night, Anna was on duty.
The maternity ward was already tense when an emergency delivery was rushed in. As Anna was changing in the staff room, a familiar figure passed by the hallway.
She froze.
It was Michael Carter.
He stood outside the delivery room, pacing back and forth, his face pale with anxiety, fists clenched tightly. For a man like Michael, who would never appear in such a sensitive area unless it involved close family, the sight made Anna’s heart pound violently.
“This can’t be…”
“Who is he bringing here?”
Before she could process further, a nurse urged her into the delivery room.
Inside lay a young woman, around twenty-five years old. She was exhausted and pale, yet her eyes shone with a strange sense of pride.
While assisting the delivery, Anna forced herself to remain calm and casually asked:
“Is your husband waiting outside?”
The woman nodded, smiling weakly but proudly.
“Yes, doctor. That’s my husband. He’s been longing for this baby.”
Anna’s ears rang.
My husband.
Those words struck Anna — and Emily — like a slap to the face.
4. The Child Is Born
The delivery went smoothly.
When the baby cried for the first time, Anna lifted him instinctively to check his condition. And in that instant, she froze.
The baby had bright blue eyes.
Not the dark brown eyes common to Asians like Michael and Emily. These were unmistakably blue — Western blue.
Anna felt a chill run down her spine.
She handed the baby to the nurse, forcing herself to maintain professionalism. But in her mind, every puzzle piece fell into place.
Stepping out of the delivery room, Anna met Michael’s eyes. He stiffened, panic flashing across his face.
Anna walked toward him, her lips curling into an icy smile.
“Congratulations, brother-in-law,” she said slowly.
“Your mistress just gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I delivered him myself.”
Michael’s mouth fell open.
Anna continued, her voice calm but each word like a blade:
“There’s just one thing I find strange. The baby has blue eyes. What color are yours, Michael? Or perhaps… you should consider a DNA test?”
5. The Mask Falls
Michael’s face turned deathly pale.
He rushed to the nursery window and stared through the glass at the newborn. When he saw those blue eyes clearly, his body trembled.
The woman inside cried out his name hysterically, but Michael didn’t turn back.
He walked away, staggering like a man who had lost his soul.
Anna stood still, a mixture of pain and grim satisfaction rising in her chest.
Before leaving, she overheard the woman on the phone, speaking without restraint:
“I’m so unlucky,” she said.
“When I was seeing Michael, I got drunk once and slept with John, that American guy. Who knew I’d get pregnant? I thought I’d struck gold this time… turns out I was wrong.”
Anna clenched her fists.
The truth was undeniable.
6. The Truth Reaches Emily
That night, Anna went straight to her sister’s house.
Emily opened the door and was startled by the look in Anna’s eyes.
Anna told her everything, every detail.
Emily sat motionless for over half an hour. She didn’t cry. She didn’t scream. She simply listened.
Finally, she laughed — a thin, chilling smile.
“So… he wasn’t incapable of having a child,” Emily whispered.
“He just couldn’t have one with me.”
Anna held her sister’s hand tightly.
“Emily… maybe the problem was never you.”
Emily nodded. In that moment, four years of humiliation, silence, and endurance collapsed completely.
She decided to divorce.
7. The Cheater Left With Nothing
Michael knelt and begged.
He cried, pleaded, promised everything.
But Emily was exhausted.
She signed the divorce papers without asking for a single dollar, taking only her personal belongings.
Michael lost his wife, his reputation, and was interrogated by his family over a child that wasn’t even his. His mistress disappeared once she realized she couldn’t get money from him.
He lost everything.
And Emily, for the first time in four years, slept peacefully.
END
Some men believe betrayal makes them clever.
But in the end, karma always arrives on time.
