Man jailed for 9 years after attempting to murder his wife in Scotland
Mohammed Rumen Ahmed, 47, has been jailed for nine years after being convicted of attempting to murder his wife at the Rockhouse Hotel in Lossiemouth, Moray, Scotland, on 11 November 2022.
The court heard that Ahmed repeatedly punched his wife, threatened to kill her and grabbed her headscarf before tightening it around her neck. The attack restricted her breathing and caused her to lose consciousness.
Prosecutors said the assault was so serious that the woman believed she was going to die. Ahmed denied attempting to murder her, but he was convicted following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.
During sentencing, Judge Michael O’Grady KC described the attack as “brutal and cowardly” and said the victim had good reason to believe her life was in danger.
Ahmed was sentenced to nine years in prison on 20 August 2026. The court also imposed an indefinite non-harassment order, preventing him from contacting or attempting to contact the victim.
