The Kansas City Chiefs star gushed that he’s ‘flying high’ amid several whirlwind months of travel for the couple.
Travis Kelce is looking back with his signature sense of humor. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end reflected on his high profile relationship with Taylor Swift on Wednesday’s episode of his New Heights podcast, opening up to guest Lil Dicky (a.k.a. Dave Burd) about how it began.
The conversation turned toward the pop star when Travis’ brother and co-host, Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce, acknowledged that their audience includes a number of Swifties. Burd then offered his take on the public fascination surrounding Travis and Swift’s romance.
“I just think there’s something that makes everyone feel like the world is kind of like high school, where your most popular pop star, like, beloved musician somehow met, like, your most popular beloved athlete, and they actually fell in love and it’s real,” Burd suggested. “I dunno, I think anyone who hates on it is a bitter loser. But I think a lot of people who [you] would maybe expect to hate on it actually love it and acknowledge they love it because there’s just something so American about it or something. There’s something just classic about it.’
Travis replied with a joke, cracking, “I don’t know how I did it because she was not into sports. So I don’t know how the f**k I did it.”
Burd quickly reminded Travis of his headline-making comments about how he unsuccessfully attempted to deliver his phone number to the songstress via a friendship bracelet at one of her Kansas City, Missouri, Eras Tour shows last summer. Later, Swift went on to call the move “metal as hell” in an interview with Time.
“I know exactly how I did it,” Travis cheekily responded.
The Dave star also asked how the siblings are doing amid their rapid rise in profile over the last year, with Jason replying that his life “has not changed that much.”
Not missing a beat, Travis gushed that he’s having the time of his life.
“I’m having a blast in life, baby,” he said. “Just flying high. Enjoying it all. Bringing new lives to the football world. Opening the football world up to new things, as well.”
Though it’s offseason for the NFL, Travis has been busy as of late. After winning the Super Bowl with the Chiefs in February, he supported his girlfriend on several of her international Eras Tour dates and traveled with the singer to California and the Bahamas. Currently, he’s gearing up for his second annual Kelce Jam music festival next month in Kansas City.
Amid their travels, a source told ET, “Taylor and Travis are soaking up their downtime together. They are appreciating the here and now and the love they share with one other. When they’re able to just chill out, they love to hang out with their friends and family, travel, see new things together, and enjoy their privacy.”
Shortly thereafter, ET spoke to Travis, who opened up about why his relationship with Swift works amid their busy careers.
“We’re both very career-driven,” he said. “We both love what we do, and any chance that I can show my support to her — and knowing that she’s showing me all the support in the world throughout the season — it’s just been an amazing experience getting to know Tay.”
