Aussie’s Bold Prediction: Japanese Superstar’s Destiny Unveiled as Legendary Promoter Hints at Epic Title Clash

Australian boxing star Sam Goodman firmly believes he saw “enough” to know he has all the tools to dethrone Naoya Inoue after the Japanese sensation retained his status as the undisputed king of the super bantamweights.

Inoue knocked out a game Luis Nery in the sixth round with a sweet combination to keep successfully defend his IBF, WBA, WBA and WBO belts inside of a sold-out, 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome in Japan.

However, Inoue showed he is vulnerable after he got knocked down for the first time in his glittering career during the opening round of the bout.

Goodman, who is the mandatory challenger for Inoue’s IBF title, entered the ring after the fight to confront the Japanese sensation where he told the champ to “either give up the belts or fight me”.

Speaking to Main Event’s Ben Damon after the fight, Goodman — who sat ringside for the fight — felt he had all the tools to be the first man to defeat Inoue.

“Look, I’ve seen enough in the fight to know I can do what I need to do to win that fight,” Goodman said.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me. It’s something very exciting and I’ve been saying it for how long, I want world titles.

“He’s got them all, I’ve got to fight him. I’ve got to box my best, but I believe if I do it, I can beat this man.”

Tens of thousands collectively gasped when Inoue, considered by many to be the pound-for-pound best boxer on the planet, was momentarily on the canvas in the opening ground.

However, Goodman took comfort in it and believed it showed “everyone is human”.

“At any given moment, anyone can beat anyone,” Goodman said.

“I’ve seen plenty in there to show I can really push him, not just push him but beat him.”

With Goodman entering the ring after the fight, it’s seemingly cemented him as Inoue’s next opponent.

So too did a comment from Inoue’s promoter Bob Arum, who had a brief word with Goodman after the fight.

Speaking to the Aussie star, Arum said: “Sam, we have your numbers and everything? Maybe we’re looking to do a big fight for him in September or October.”

Goodman is unbeaten from 18 fights, with his last victory coming against tough Aussie contender Mark Schleibs in March.
