UFC star Conor McGregor has sent a congratulatory message to boxing star Ryan Garcia after he beat WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney by majority decision

Conor McGregor has congratulated Ryan Garcia following his stunning win over rival Devin Haney.

Garcia scored three knockdowns as he beat Haney via majority decision, but the 25-year-old was ineligible to win the WBC super lightweight title after coming more than 3lbs overweight and forfeiting a percentage of his purse.

And McGregor made reference to Garcia’s defeat to Gervonta Davis last year, the first and only loss of his career, congratulating the boxer on bouncing back and taking aim at those who criticised him after that fight.

In a post on social media, the UFC star wrote: “Yup Jesus and the sesh! Ya’s know f*** all, peasants, stay out of our ear! Well in Garcia. An amazing fight from two champions! Have now fought each other 7 times!

“That’s incredible. Some are just born to fight! Some aren’t. If you aren’t be sure to be a good gatherer cos I be hungry. God speed to both men and teams in this crazy world and congrats Ryan Garcia!

“Tonight is your night, I knew when he fought Tank that this guy was electric. Even in defeat. I went backstage after he’d been stopped to the body last time out. Only his close people were present. A win or a loss will never make or break a person to me.

“When you know, you know. Fighters know. The real know. God knows! Now the real fight happens for the young man, too! Stay strong kid, believe in the Lord’s guidance and keep it tight like frogs ass in Versace lad hahaha yes!

“Well in! Jesus is King so don’t go against what he tells you personally and internally. Keep it right and good luck lil’ bro. Drink responsibly @ProperWhiskey and @ForgedStout everynight.”

Garcia also took aim at his critics after the win, saying: “Come on, guys, you really thought I was crazy? You all lost your own minds. You guys overegg everything.” Haney, meanwhile, was left “disappointed” with his performance but added: “I [showed I] was a true champion and I could fight after being knocked down.

“I fell asleep on the left hook. We trained for it but I got in there and fell asleep,” said Haney, who has also been undisputed champion at lightweight. I gave him a shot, it’s only right he gives me a shot back. He didn’t make weight, so I’m still the champion. We can run it back.”
