Under the pressure of my parents and sensing my own waning feelings, I proposed divorce. My wife knelt down and begged me, but my mind was made up. Two months later, I knelt down and begged my ex-wife to remarry me.
Under that pressure from my parents, and because I personally felt my feelings had faded, I proposed divorce. My wife knelt down and begged me at that moment, but my mind was made up.
My wife and I dated for five years before getting married. From the very first time we met, I was drawn to her because she was young, beautiful, and full of life. Even though my circumstances weren’t great back then, I relentlessly pursued her, doing everything I could to win her heart. Finally, after many efforts, she accepted, and we began a strong relationship that lasted five years.
Throughout that time, I always cherished her. When my parents urged us to marry, we discussed it and decided to tie the knot. Since we were both people from the countryside who moved to the city to work, we decided to buy a house before the wedding. At the time, I only contributed 300 million VND, and the rest was covered by my wife. I was truly grateful to her, and my parents were also completely satisfied with this daughter-in-law.
But a cruel twist of fate occurred right before the wedding. As we were returning home after taking our wedding photos, a car sped straight toward us. I didn’t have time to react, but my wife managed to push me out of the way, making me fall to the ground and avoid the accident. She, however, was struck by the car, lost a leg, and could only walk with a prosthetic limb from then on.
When they found out, my parents objected to the marriage, fearing life would be difficult afterward. But thinking about how she saved my life, thinking about our five years of love, and everything she had done for me, I decided to marry her anyway.

That day, despite my parents’ opposition, I was determined to marry her. (Illustrative image)
After we married, because she had lost a leg, she had to quit her job. Even though she could walk with a prosthetic, she couldn’t find a suitable job. Moreover, my parents were anxious to have a grandchild, so I persuaded my wife to stop working altogether to stay home, recuperate, and prepare to have a baby. She agreed, but after many months of trying, we still hadn’t received any good news.
During that time, the relationship between my wife and my parents became strained. My mother didn’t like her and constantly complained, causing my wife to gradually lose confidence and feel constantly insecure. She was afraid I would divorce her, always asking me if I would leave her, and even though I always said no, she still didn’t believe me. Every time I came home from work, she would check everything from my jacket pockets to the scent on my body, as if she was afraid I was having an affair.
However, a bright spot was that my wife became much more hardworking. She took meticulous care of my parents and did all the housework, even smiling without saying a word when she was scolded. I knew she changed because she was afraid of losing me, and I also knew that even though she wasn’t working, she contributed a lot to the family, even using her accident compensation money to buy a car for me.
Yet, the more I thought about it, the more annoyed and uncomfortable I felt. My parents also started to dislike her, and they urged me to divorce.
Under that pressure and sensing my own waning feelings, I proposed divorce. My wife knelt down and begged me at that moment, but my mind was made up. After the divorce, she didn’t ask for anything, packed her belongings, and left. I thought I would feel relieved; my mother was even overjoyed about it and took the whole family out to a restaurant to celebrate.
But just two months later, I accidentally saw an old post from my ex-wife on social media stating that she was over three months pregnant. Initially, I didn’t believe it, so I called to ask, and she said the baby was mine. I was stunned, unsure whether to be happy or sad. I went to find my ex-wife to confirm, and indeed, she was pregnant.
I proposed that my ex-wife let me raise the child later, but she refused. “I am capable of raising my child alone. Even though I am not the same as before, my family has more than enough means to take care of the little one. No need to bother you.”
It was then that I truly realized that everything I had once considered her “inconvenience” or “burden” could not break her down.
My mother found out and urged me to go back, but when we met, my ex-wife coldly refused despite my pleading. In a state of confusion and regret, I knelt down in front of her, begging for forgiveness and proposing remarriage. But she remained firmly against it.
Now I’m truly distraught. I realize I was wrong not to cherish her when she needed me most. Seeing my ex-wife still strong and resilient despite being pregnant and living with a physical disability, I finally understood that love is not always easy. I don’t know how to get her back, but deep down, I only know one thing: if I get another chance, I will never let her go.
