The Billionaire Who Fired a Poor Maid… Not Knowing She Was His Long-Lost Daughter
The mansion of William Carter stood on a cliff overlooking the city of Los Angeles.
It was a massive white-stone building with floor-to-ceiling windows reflecting the golden light of the afternoon sun. The gardens were so vast that electric carts were needed just to cross them.
The media often called William Carter “the real estate king of California.”
His fortune was worth billions of dollars.
He owned luxury hotels, resorts, shopping centers, and dozens of office towers across the country.
Yet inside that magnificent mansion, there was something money could never buy.
A family.
Twenty years earlier, William Carter’s life had changed forever.
It was a cold winter night.
His wife, Emily Carter, had been driving home with their three-year-old daughter, Lily.
Their car was involved in a terrible accident on the highway.
Emily was found badly injured.
But Lily… disappeared.
Police searched for weeks.
Helicopters scanned the forests nearby.
Volunteers combed through the area.
But the little girl was never found.
Emily died a few days later in the hospital.
From that moment on, William Carter became a different man.
He buried himself in work.
He expanded his business empire at an incredible pace.
Within ten years, he became one of the richest men in California.
But his heart grew cold.
He rarely smiled.
And he never spoke about his daughter again.
A New Maid
Twenty years later.
A young woman stood nervously in front of the Carter mansion gates.
Her name was Anna Miller.
She wore a faded coat and held a small worn bag in her hands.
Anna had just been hired as a cleaning maid in the mansion.
She didn’t know much about the owner of the estate.
All she knew was that she desperately needed the job.
Anna had grown up in an orphanage in Nevada.
She never knew who her parents were.
According to her records, she had been found alone near a highway when she was about three years old.
Most people assumed her parents had abandoned her.
Anna never knew the truth.
She only knew she had to survive on her own.
The mansion’s housekeeper, Mrs. Thompson, led her inside.
“You’ll be cleaning the first floor and the dining hall,” the older woman explained.
“Mr. Carter doesn’t tolerate mistakes.”
Anna nodded politely.
“I understand.”
She started working that very day.
She mopped the marble floors.
She cleaned the tables.
She washed dishes in the massive kitchen.
In a house this large, servants were almost invisible.
And Anna quickly became one of them.
The First Encounter
One afternoon, Anna was cleaning the enormous living room.
While wiping the shelves, she noticed a small decorative statue had slipped off its stand.
She carefully picked it up.
At that moment, a cold voice sounded behind her.
“Who told you to touch my things?”
Anna froze and turned around.
Standing behind her was William Carter himself.
Tall.
Imposing.
His silver hair neatly combed back.
And his sharp eyes filled with irritation.
Anna quickly lowered her head.
“I’m sorry, sir. I was just putting it back.”
William stepped closer and looked at the statue in her hands.
“I didn’t hire you to break my property.”
Anna’s voice trembled slightly.
“I didn’t break it, sir.”
William crossed his arms.
“You’re new here, aren’t you?”
“Yes, sir.”
His gaze moved slowly from her worn coat to her old shoes.
There was clear disdain in his expression.
“You smell like poverty,” he said coldly.
Anna lowered her head, swallowing the humiliation.
“I’m sorry, sir.”
William turned toward the housekeeper.
“I don’t want to see her in the living room again.”
The Incident
A few days later, a serious incident happened.
William Carter was hosting a formal dinner with several wealthy business partners.
Crystal glasses sparkled under the chandelier.
Expensive wine was poured.
Suddenly—
CRASH.
A crystal glass shattered on the floor.
The sound echoed through the entire dining room.
Everyone turned.
The closest person standing near the broken glass…
was Anna.
William’s face darkened instantly.
“You did this?”
Anna’s eyes widened in panic.
“No, sir! I only—”
But William didn’t listen.
He had grown used to people being silent around him.
“Enough.”
His voice was cold.
“I don’t pay careless servants.”
Anna tried again.
“Sir, I really didn’t—”
William pointed toward the door.
“You’re fired.”
The room fell silent.
Anna stood still for a few seconds.
Then she lowered her head.
“I understand.”
She quietly walked away.
While gathering her small belongings, her worn bag slipped from her hands.
Something small rolled onto the floor.
A silver pendant.
William glanced at it by accident.
And suddenly froze.
The pendant had the shape of a lily flower.
His heart skipped a beat.
He stepped forward and picked it up.
“Wait.”
Anna turned around.
William held the pendant tightly.
“Where did you get this?”
Anna looked confused.
“I’ve had it since I was little.”
“Where?”
“In the orphanage.”
William’s hands began to tremble.
Twenty years earlier…
He had placed that very necklace around his daughter’s neck.
It had been a birthday gift.
His voice shook.
“How old are you?”
“Twenty-three.”
William felt the ground shift beneath him.
He asked one more question.
“Where were you found?”
Anna answered quietly.
“Near a highway in Nevada.”
The room fell completely silent.
William Carter turned pale.
Twenty years ago.
A car accident.
A highway.
A missing child.
The pieces suddenly fit together like a cruel puzzle.
He stared at the young woman standing before him.
Her brown eyes.
Her gentle expression.
She looked unbelievably similar to Emily.
His voice trembled.
“Anna…”
“Do you remember anything about your parents?”
Anna shook her head.
“No.”
William stepped back slowly.
His eyes filled with tears.
“Maybe…”
he whispered.
“Maybe your name isn’t Anna Miller.”
Anna looked at him in confusion.
William swallowed hard.
“Maybe…”
“You are Lily Carter.”
A glass fell from the table and shattered.
But this time—
No one paid attention to the sound.
Because inside the luxurious Carter mansion…
A truth buried for twenty years had just begun to surface.
And the billionaire who had just fired a poor maid…
Might have just found the daughter he believed he had lost forever.
