That afternoon, when Emily Carter opened the front door and stepped inside, she stopped immediately at the entrance.

A soft scent filled the air.

Roses.

Emily frowned.

In the living room, on the wooden table near the window, a large vase was filled with bright red roses. Drops of water still clung to the petals, meaning they had been arranged not long ago.

She walked closer.

Her heart beat slightly faster.

Her husband, Daniel Carter, had never bought flowers.

He simply wasn’t that type of man.

In seven years of marriage, he had given her flowers onceon the day he proposed.

Emily placed her bag on the chair.

Daniel?” she called.

Daniel stepped out of the kitchen.

He was wearing his usual blue shirt, sleeves rolled up, but there was a very… unusual smile on his face.

You’re home,” he said.

Emily pointed at the vase.

What’s this?”

Daniel smiled softly.

I bought them for you.”

Emily looked at him for a few seconds.

For… me?”

Yeah.”

He walked over and gently kissed her cheek.

Is that not allowed?”

Emily didn’t answer immediately.

Something… felt wrong.

Daniel wasn’t the kind of man who suddenly became romantic.

He was practical. Almost painfully practical.

But Emily simply smiled.

Of course it is.”

During dinner that evening, Daniel surprised her even more.

After they finished eating, he took out his phone.

Oh, right,” he said. “I booked you a spa appointment tonight.”

Emily looked up.

A spa?”

Yeah. At Silver Lake Spa. Full body massage. Two hours.”

Emily stared at him.

You booked it… for me?”

Yep.”

He showed her the phone.

An email confirmation appeared on the screen.

Silver Lake Spa – 7:30 PM Reservation – Emily Carter

Emily felt a cold sensation run down her spine.

Daniel had never done something like this.

Why are you suddenly so nice to me?” she asked jokingly.

Daniel shrugged.

I just want you to relax.”

Emily watched him for a few seconds.

Then she smiled.

Thank you.”

At exactly 7 PM, Emily grabbed her bag.

I’m leaving.”

Daniel stood by the door, smiling.

Drive safe.”

Emily nodded.

She walked outside.

Closed the door.

Went down the steps.

Opened her car door.

But she didn’t start the engine.

Instead, she sat there quietly for a few seconds.

An idea slowly formed in her mind.

Emily had read enough stories.

Husbands who suddenly became too nice were usually hiding something.

She looked toward the living room window.

The lights were still on.

Daniel was inside.

Emily started the car.

But she only drove two blocks.

Then she turned around.

Parked at the corner.

Turned off the headlights.

Turned off the engine.

Then she walked back.

Their house had a small path in the back.

A stone walkway leading to the backyard.

Emily slipped around the wooden fence.

Her heart beat faster.

She told herself she might be overthinking.

But her instincts were rarely wrong.

She stood behind a large bush near the kitchen door.

The kitchen window was lit.

Emily crouched low.

And waited.

Five minutes passed.

Nothing happened.

Ten minutes.

She began to feel ridiculous.

Maybe Daniel really was just trying to do something nice for her.

Emily was about to leave when—

The living room lights turned off.

She froze.

A minute later…

The doorbell rang.

Emily held her breath.

She couldn’t see the front door from the backyard.

But she heard the door open.

Then…

A woman’s voice.

Emily felt her entire body stiffen.

She heard Daniel laugh.

You’re here.”

The woman replied,

Are you sure she’s gone?”

Daniel answered immediately.

Yeah. I booked her a two-hour spa.”

Emily felt the blood in her body turn to ice.

They walked into the living room.

Emily heard the sound of high heels.

The woman laughed softly.

Your house is beautiful.”

Daniel said,

I told you.”

Emily bit her lip.

She slowly moved toward the living room window at the back.

The curtains weren’t fully closed.

Through a narrow gap, she looked inside.

A blonde woman stood in the living room.

About thirty years old.

Wearing a tight black dress.

Daniel stood beside her.

His hand resting lightly on her waist.

Emily felt her heart drop to the floor.

The woman looked around.

She doesn’t suspect anything?”

Daniel shook his head.

Emily is very trusting.”

Emily clenched her hands.

You bought her flowers?”

Daniel laughed.

Yeah. Just to make it look natural.”

The woman chuckled.

You’re terrible.”

Daniel shrugged.

It’s only two hours.”

Then he pulled her closer.

And kissed her.

Emily couldn’t hear anything anymore.

Her ears rang.

She stood there for several minutes.

Not crying.

Not screaming.

Just standing there.

Watching them.

Then slowly stepping back.

Away from the window.

Into the backyard.

And around to the front.

But instead of leaving…

Emily took out her phone.

She started recording.

Every step.

Every detail.

The unfamiliar car parked in front of the house.

The license plate.

Then she recorded the two of them through the window.

Clear enough.

Long enough.

Enough evidence.

After a while, Emily left.

This time she really drove away.

But she didn’t go to the spa.

She went to a 24-hour café.

Sat down.

Opened her laptop.

And watched the video again.

Everything was clear.

Impossible to deny.

Emily took a sip of coffee.

Then smiled slightly.

A cold smile.

At 9:30 PM, she returned home.

The strange car was gone.

Daniel was sitting on the couch.

Watching TV.

He looked up.

You’re back already?”

Emily nodded.

Yeah.”

She placed her bag down.

Daniel asked,

How was the spa?”

Emily smiled.

It was wonderful.”

Daniel let out a quiet sigh of relief.

Emily noticed that.

That night, Daniel fell asleep quickly.

As usual.

Emily lay beside him.

Staring at the ceiling.

Unable to sleep.

She thought.

For a long time.

The next morning.

Emily woke up early.

Daniel was making coffee.

Good morning,” he said.

Emily smiled.

Morning.”

She sat at the table.

Daniel.”

Yeah?”

Can you take the day off today?”

Daniel looked surprised.

Why?”

Emily looked straight at him.

Then said calmly,

I want to talk about the woman last night.”

Daniel froze.

The coffee cup in his hand fell to the floor.

Emily placed her phone on the table.

She played the video.

The sound from the living room last night filled the room.

Daniel’s voice:

Emily is very trusting.”

Daniel’s face turned pale.

Emily, I—”

Emily raised her hand.

Don’t.”

She looked at him.

Her calm expression was terrifying.

I didn’t go to the spa.”

She said.

I was in the backyard.”

Daniel couldn’t say a word.

Emily closed the laptop.

My lawyer will contact you.”

Daniel panicked.

Emily, wait—”

No.”

Emily stood up.

Seven years of marriage.”

She looked straight into his eyes.

And you thought a bouquet of flowers and a spa appointment would make me disappear for two hours.”

Daniel stayed silent.

Emily grabbed her bag.

And walked toward the door.

Before leaving, she turned back one last time.

Thanks for the flowers.”

She said.

Without them, I might not have realized I should have ended this sooner.”

Then Emily Carter walked out of that house.

Without looking back.

And for the first time in years…

She finally felt free.
