She Thought She Was Banished With a Torn Dress and Cut Hair, But Three Days Later, She Walked Back Through the Gates With a Laptop and the Forged Will That Would Destroy Them All
THE INHERITANCE RECKONING
The living room of our Quezon City home suffocated under a heavy, oppressive silence. My father sat squarely in the center of the sofa, his expression weary yet laced with his familiar, reflexive accusation. Beside him, my stepmother, Victoria, sipped her tea with a thin, arrogant smile. She was entirely certain I had returned to bow my head, apologize, and accept blame for disrupting the family.
“So you finally decided to crawl back, Clara?” Victoria slammed her teacup down onto the table, her tone razor-sharp. “Look at your pathetic state. Living outside for a few days must have left you starving and desperate, didn’t it? Come here, apologize to me and your father, and maybe I’ll toss you enough to buy some decent clothes.”
My father looked at me, sighing in simulated helplessness: “Clara, stop being so stubborn. Just apologize to your mother and let things go back to normal. You always love making a big deal out of nothing.”
I stood straight, shedding every trace of tears or trembling weakness from past encounters. In my hands, I carried a gray laptop and a thick file neatly tucked inside a brown leather folder.
I walked straight to the coffee table, slamming the portfolio down right in front of my father. The sharp impact caused Victoria’s teacup to slosh, spilling liquid across the table.
“What do you think you’re doing, you ungrateful wretch?!” Victoria shrieked, lunging forward to swipe the file away.
“Open it,” I cut her off coldly, my voice carrying clearly across the room so the gathered relatives and family staff could hear every word. “Don’t throw it away just yet. Because this is what has kept this fake household running for the past decade… fueled by the blood, sweat, and tears of my late mother.”
My father reluctantly picked up the folder. As the first page turned, his hand froze mid-motion. His complexion drained instantly, shifting from troubled annoyance to a stark, bloodless white.
It was a detailed audit trail from overseas accounts, covert transfer agreements, and the original will drafted by my late grandfather to protect my mother’s rightful inheritance—a will that my father and Victoria had systematically forged and covered up to hijack her entire chain of beauty clinics and real estate holdings.
“Where… where did you get this?” My father stammered, jolting to his feet, staring at me as if I were a ghost.
“From the safe you thought nobody else could ever open in the old study,” I replied with a cold smirk, my eyes shifting to Victoria’s increasingly panicked face. “And the upstairs hallway security footage capturing you cutting my hair and tearing my dress three days ago has already been forwarded to the corporate legal team, along with an indictment for harassment and asset misappropriation.”
Victoria lunged forward like a cornered beast: “You’re lying! Darling, look at this ungrateful brat trying to frame us! Aren’t you going to call security and throw her out?!”
My father didn’t move. He collapsed back into the sofa, paralyzed. Because right then, the laptop screen I had opened began broadcasting a crystal-clear audio recording of Victoria’s vicious voice echoing through the entire room:
“Go ahead and tear it to shreds. A stray’s kid will always remain a stray. Once the old man dies, everything in this house belongs to us…”
Whispers rippled through the room. The extended family members who once blindly defended my father now cast cold, calculating glances of disgust in his direction.
I leaned in, stopping just inches from Victoria’s contorted face, whispering quietly enough for only the two of them to hear:
“You used to say I was humiliating this family, didn’t you? You were wrong… Everything I’m doing right now is simply taking back what belonged to my mother all along. And the real show has only just begun.”
