A neighbor unexpectedly spotted Karen Solomon stealthily returning home after U.S. police had issued an arrest warrant for her; however, the most shocking detail was what she was holding in her hand as she stood calmly at the doorway.
Karen Solomon, author of the book Hearts Beneath the Badge about how police officers serve their communities, is wanted by police after a police officer was found dead in her home. She is considered armed and dangerous and possibly wearing pajamas.
“She is a 58-year-old white female with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top. She was last seen on foot, walking towards Westcott Street, wrote Worcester Police Department on its official Facebook page, later adding security footage of a lightly-dressed person, identified as Solomon, walking down a street.
Police identified the victim as Kurt Solomon, 57, but did not say whether they were related; local media reports that they own the residence and were married.
Karen Solomon is a co-founder of an organization called First H.E.L.P., the organization said in a statement Tuesday night.
The group “is dedicated to honoring the service of first responders who have died by suicide, supporting their families, reducing the stigma associated with seeking mental-health assistance, and increasing awareness of mental-health challenges within the law-enforcement and first-responder communities,” it said.
Another local media outlet reports police activity at a nearby reservoir.
Several hours after the search began, a large law enforcement presence was seen near Worcester’s Coes Reservoir, which is less than a mile away from Wildwood Avenue. Officers with guns drawn in a Worcester Fire Department boat were seen surveying a small island behind buildings along the Mill Street side of the reservoir. It was not immediately clear if that activity was connected to the search for Solomon.
An online profile for Solomon details her advocacy work.
Karen Solomon is co-founder of Blue H.E.L.P, creator of www.1sthelp.net and the author of “Hearts Beneath the Badge” and “The Price They Pay,” as well as many articles about law enforcement suicide. Her focus is on the stories of the families who have lost an officer to suicide and the officers who suffer from the feeling they have nowhere to turn. Karen is also the wife of a police officer.
