Ethics Charter
The principles that guide how DailyTin24 reports, edits, corrects and uses technology.
Independence
DailyTin24 decides what to cover and how to cover it on editorial grounds alone. Advertisers, sponsors, partners and investors have no say over our stories, headlines or the order in which they appear. If anyone attempts to influence coverage in exchange for money, access or favours, editors are expected to refuse and to record the attempt.
Accuracy and fairness
We aim to get things right the first time and to be honest when we do not. That means checking facts against primary sources, distinguishing clearly between what is known and what is still uncertain, and avoiding language that exaggerates. Fairness means giving people and organisations we report on a reasonable chance to respond before publication, representing their views accurately, and avoiding stereotypes.
- We do not invent quotes or composite characters in reported journalism.
- We clearly label illustrative, analysis and opinion pieces.
- We do not use misleading images, headlines or statistics.
During our launch edition, many stories on the site are illustrative and feature fictional people. These pieces carry an Illustrative label so they are never mistaken for reporting.
No paid content disguised as news
Readers deserve to know when something is paid for. Sponsored material will always be clearly labelled as sponsored, visually separated from editorial content and never written to look like an independent news story. Journalists on our editorial desks will not write sponsored material.
Corrections and conflicts of interest
When we make a mistake, we fix it promptly and transparently. Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected story, explaining what changed and when. We do not quietly edit away errors. Details of how to report an error are in our Fact-Check Policy.
Staff and contributors must disclose any financial, personal or political interest that could reasonably be seen to affect their work. Where a conflict exists, the person concerned steps away from that story, and editors decide whether a disclosure should appear alongside it.
Use of automation
We use software tools to help our small team work efficiently. Tools may sort incoming information, flag possible duplicates, suggest tags, check spelling or highlight claims that need verification. They do not decide what is true and they do not publish on their own.
Tools sort and flag. Humans write, check and sign off on every story.
Every piece on DailyTin24 is written or substantially shaped by a person and approved by an editor before publication. If our approach to automation changes, we will update this charter and explain why.
