Morning Coffee Tin: the daily brief
Five constructive stories to start your morning, with an honest note on when email delivery begins.
What the brief is
The Morning Coffee Tin is our daily brief: five constructive stories, chosen and summarised by our editors, designed to be read in the time it takes to finish a cup of coffee. It is the simplest way to stay informed without opening a dozen tabs or wading through a feed of alarming headlines.
Each morning's edition is planned for delivery at 7:00 AM Eastern Time, so it is waiting for you before the day gets busy.
What is inside each edition
- Five stories, no more: a deliberate limit that keeps the brief focused and finishable.
- Two or three sentences each: what happened, why it matters and what is being done.
- A constructive angle: at least one story highlighting a solution, discovery or community effort that is making measurable progress.
- Clear labels: the same Illustrative, Analysis and Opinion labels used on the site.
- The day ahead: a short note on one thing worth watching.
There will be no clickbait subject lines, no breaking-news alarms and no flood of extra emails. One brief, once a day.
An honest note about sign-ups
We want to be completely clear: email delivery of the Morning Coffee Tin is launching soon and is not yet available.
Until then, if you enter your email address in a sign-up form on this site, it is saved only in your own browser, using local storage on your device. It is not sent to us, and it is not stored on any server. This lets us remember that you are interested, but it means we cannot yet send you anything. If you clear your browser data or switch devices, that saved sign-up will be gone.
Want to be told when it launches?
If you would like us to let you know directly when the brief begins, send an email to [email protected] with the subject line Brief. We will use your address only to tell you about the Morning Coffee Tin, and you can ask us to remove it at any time. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle emails you send us.
Shape the first edition
Is 7:00 AM ET the right time for you? Which desks would you like to hear from most often? Reply in the same email and tell us. The brief is being designed now, and reader feedback will help us decide what makes the five-story cut.
